Advice for anyone who needs immediate move in date!
Also same advice if you are arriving from outside the city!
Also same advice if you are arriving from outside the city!
You live outside NYC but are interested in working with me.
The most likely way that I can help you:
A) When you come to NYC find temporary housing for say 30-45 days (airbnb is the best choice for that!! It is a far better choice versus often shady although highly popular craiglist).
B) Starting from the time you arrive I can show you the place, register you at waterside plaza's leasing office as my client and have you attend the roommate group meetings. It might take several meetings before the group is complete.
C) I always work with move in date that are 30-45 days down the line. If you are here in for example mid July at that point I am probably working with mid August and or early Sep move in dates.
Hope that helps
PS: I would still advice pretty much the same idea even if you are not working with me for anyone who is coming from outside the NYC: 1) Find a temporary place for 30-45 days through airbnb (completely forget craisglist for that!!!); 2) Once you find that then look for a more permanent solution where the move in dates are say 30 days down the line (why would you deal with any fellow roommate seeking a missing roommate for asap move-in and who is obviously in panic due to lack of time!!!).

Immediate move in dates: Airbnb versus Craiglist
Airbnb
I often have such immediate move in dates to offer but on occasion that might not be the case. In such case what I strongly recommend is for you to find a temporary housing or room through airbnb. Airbnb is a world leader in roughly 170 countries in the world when it comes to short term rentals. Anyone who posts their property there has feedback that is written by others who have used them in the past. I would recommend finding a place once you move in NYC for instance for at least one month via airbnb. This way you will give yourself time to look around and find the best deal out there versus dealing with time crunch that makes people panic and thus more likely to make a mistake.
Warning: I would never advise choosing a place after only seeing it once and talking to roommate there for say 15 minutes. That is downright naive. I would personally need to come over several days talking to roommates there to make sure their behavior for example is always consistent and to see to what extent they appear reliable (in this example, reliable means ability to keep their word and predict their own behavior for instance among other things). Any roommate that would wants you to move in their place after talking shortly (example 15 minutes) is basically impulsive. I would be strongly against the idea of moving in with such roommate. Reason for this view: I would not want to roll dice and see how this individual reacts for instance when they are in a bad mood and or when things are not moving in the direction they were hoping for on a particular day.
Vs Craigslist in same situation
Alternative to using airbnb would be finding a room on craigslist where someone needs you to also move in asap, like for example in a week from now. Now lets analyze this situation in more detail: 1) Person looking for someone to move in asap in this example is probably a fellow roommate that organizes the roommate situation in their apartment hence why you are talking to him or her. 2) The fact that he or she was not able to find someone all this time (and there is week left to find someone) is a testament to their inability to perform efficiently a task they are trying to perform (and that is find a suitable roommate). 3) This individual is probably not very picky due to lack of time and is probably panicking at this point at least to some extent. 4) This situation probably has occurred in the past in such apartment and that particular apartment could be dealing with potential roommate problem for the same reasons I have already stated in previous sentence.

PS: Please take into consideration the advice that I am giving you here!! It is coming from a roommate matchmaker who has been doing this since the summer of 2008. When it comes to roommates, simply put, I have seen it all!! Therefore, I am talking from my extensive experience. Long story short, please do not take my advice lightly assuming you are in similar situation and must move asap or coming from abroad! It is only for your own benefit!
